You can stay safe and save time and money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Car repairs are always more expensive than regular maintenance. and there are real safety issues with low tire pressure and oil levels.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"c-section__title c-section__title--green c-section__title--left c-section__title--lvl2 \">Check Your Tire Pressure \u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why? &nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tires with too little or too much air can cause blowouts or other unsafe conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Properly inflated tires will get you the best mileage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How To Check Your Tire Pressure &nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A sturdy kick is NOT enough. Do this before you start driving, or within the first few miles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When you open your car door, you should see a sticker on the frame that shows you what the tire pressure should be in \u2018PSI\u2019. &nbsp;It may be different for front and rear tires but will be the same for the driver\u2019s and passenger\u2019s side.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll want to check each tire individually. Unscrew the cap on the tire stem and attach a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/cro\/tire-pressure-gauges.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tire pressure guage<\/a>. If the reading is under \u2013 get some air at a gas station or car wash as soon as you can.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It your tire is visibly deflated \u2013 don&#8217;t drive on it!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While you\u2019re down there, check to see if you have any uneven wear on your tires or bulging \u2013 these can indicate serious problems.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"c-section__title c-section__title--green c-section__title--left c-section__title--lvl2 \">Check Your Oil \u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why? &nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Engine oil is super-important &#8211; without it you can ruin an engine \u2013 and it can also help you diagnose problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How To Check Your Oil<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Some modern cars have sensors for this \u2013 but the rest of us need to grab a rag or paper towel, pop the hood, and look for the dipstick handle (consult your manual.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u2019ve been driving, be careful, everything under the hood could be hot!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pull the dipstick out, wipe the end clean with your rag or towel, then reinsert it all the way.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pull it out again \u2013 there will be a line labeled \u2018Max\u2019 and \u2018Min\u2019 &#8211; If you\u2019re close to the \u2018Min\u2019 &#8211; add some oil.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.consumerreports.org\/car-repair-maintenance\/how-to-check-car-engine-oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more on how to check your oil<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the level is good, check the color \u2013 if it isn\u2019t brown or black in color and pretty thick, you might have some issues that need a professional\u2019s eye.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Even the best maintained car can still run into trouble \u2013 driving over a nail can give anyone a flat.
